Two days before a deadly school crash, the driver was ordered to see a school psychologist and had attempted suicide a month earlier, a fatality inquiry heard Monday.

Testifying at the inquest, bus driver Louise Rogers said in the months before the Oct. 18, 2007 crash that killed nine-year-old Kathelynn Occena she had become increasingly depressed and was taking anti-depressents and sleep medication.

Rogers, who crashed the Third Academy School bus into a gravel truck in southwest Calgary, said she had been ordered to see the school's psychologist just two days before the crash.

She said she was hospitalized for trying to take her own life in September by overdosing on pills after a difficult year in which she separated from her husband and converted to Islam.

Rogers is scheduled to conclude her testimony Monday morning.
