MURRIETA – A 34-year-old Murrieta woman found dead in her apartment under a nude and unconscious man was strangled, and her ex-boyfriend is believed to have done it in a failed murder-suicide attempt, authorities said Tuesday.

Ever Council was found about 11 a.m. Monday by a worried friend who got the apartment manager to open the door of her Sonoma Mapleton apartment in the 33000 block of Mapleton Avenue, Murrieta police Lt. Dennis Vrooman said.

The prime suspect is her former boyfriend, Wade Griffin, III, 38, also of Murrieta, who was found in the apartment, unconscious from a drug overdose, Vrooman said.

Evidence at the scene pointed to a struggle, the lieutenant said.

Griffin was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center, where he is reported in a coma, Vrooman said, adding that he apparently took a large dose of antidepressants.

The friend who found the body was talking with Council shortly before 10 a.m. Monday, when the woman screamed and the call was disconnected, Vrooman said.

At the time, the friend was traveling north from San Diego to Murrieta. Shortly afterward, he called to see if Council had arrived at work, Vrooman said.

When the friend learned that Council never arrived at her job, he went to her apartment, Vrooman said.

Post-mortem tests should show if Council was sexually assaulted, Vrooman said.
