A company director committed suicide at his business in Park Way, Burnt Oak, Edgware, after becoming worried about his debts.

Philip Bevan, of Colne Way, Hertfordshire, was found slumped in a car at Station Cars, in Park Way, Burnt Oak, on October 21, 2008.

An inquest at Hornsey Coroners' Court heard today the 49-year-old had taken his life by poisoning himself with carbon monoxide fumes from a car exhaust.

David Spurgen worked next door to Mr Bevan and discovered his friend’s lifeless body.

The 60-year-old said: "He felt like killing himself three weeks before, but I talked him out of it.

"I never thought he would actually go through with it.

"He was a good man, a family man, really happy go lucky.

"I will miss him, I keep on expecting him to walk through the door."

In a statement to the court, his wife Lynn Bevan revealed her husband had been worried about losing his home.

She said: "Philip received a letter about a business he owned with his brother with lots of claims in it so he passed on to a solicitor.

"He was quite positive at this stage.

"After a couple of weeks he was really agitated and said he felt like killing himself.

"He wouldn’t get out of bed."

Before his death Mr Bevan was diagnosed with depression and was on anti-depressants. He leaves a wife and three children.
